Welcome to the Richmond County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office!

The Sheriff is a constitutional officer duly elected by the voters of Richmond County to serve a four-year term. 

Richmond County was founded in 1692 and since then there have been 119 Sheriffs serving this county, beginning with Sheriff John Stone taking office on May 12, 1692.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for Crime Prevention, Civil Process, Court Security, the Dispatch E-911 Center, K-9, School Resource Officers, as well as community programs such as Safeguard and Crimestoppers.
